Celebration!

Today was our final day in Cabanas and it was pretty emotional.

The morning started off relatively normal with a breakfast consisting of cereal, milk, oatmeal and yogurt. We then continued with the work on the church which was mainly touching up the walls with paint and laying down tile. Amery worked on decorations for the Despedida (goodbye party) and helped do up the old church.

Lunch was a little different as we actually had DESSERT! For our independant project Avery and I got to make a cake with a girl who lives down the road from the cheese factory. So we had a chocolate sponge cake with dulce de leche icing and chocolate chip ice cream! It was so gooood!

After lunch we resumed our work and added the finishing touches to the old church. When we finished, some of us headed down to the river to cool off (since today was HOT) while the rest chilled back at the cheese factory.

The last part of the day was the party! We had a great time and said goodbye to all the lovely people who helped us throughout our time here — Elda (the lady who cooked for us), Jose Luis (the foreman), Luis (a member of the church committee who helped us throughout the process) and many more which was very sad to do. We took pictures, ate great food, and listened to several presentations by students. Sean, Samson, and David performed a rap they wrote themselves to the locals and Riley and Jake unveiled (dramatically) a handmade scoreboard to the schoolchildren.

Overall a great day!
